AGM Report Club Colmcille looks to 2012

An Charraig Mhór GFC held the annual convention in the clubrooms on Sunday December 4th. With one of the largest crowds in attendance for years the business of 2011 was discussed openly.

In what was quite a difficult year for everyone associated with the club members were upbeat about next year and were anxious to look to the future with the optimism and ambition that has been a feature of the club since its’ inception.

In his Chairman’s Address, Dermot Loughran alluded to the challenges of 2011 and thanked everyone from the club who had played their part in overcoming those challenges. He continued ‘…. we know that within our club we have the personnel with the drive, experience, knowledge and passion to deal with these issues and put this club back on the pedestal where it belongs’.

Focusing on the success of 2011 he paid particular attention to the on field successes of the Senior Ladies league final victory, the U13 boy’s title win over Moortown and the girl’s wonderful victory in the U16 championship. The various successes of the U8, U10 and U12 boys and more recently the success of our Set Dancers in the Tyrone Scor na nOg final were also singled out as major highlights by the outgoing chairman.

Turning to the club faithful Dermot paid tribute to their unwavering commitment to the club. ‘To the managers, coaches, trainers, backroom staff, umpires, linesmen and referees; to the stewards, to our shop assistants, those who prepare the food, those who clean the changing rooms kitchens and clubrooms, those who cut the grass, those who tidy up the rubbish or assist in any small way, the club wish to say thank you as you are the foot soldiers whose work whilst unseen is not forgotten.

Special thanks of course to Jimmy McElhatton, forever present and forever willing to assist with whatever task is asked of him. As always the club wishes to thank its members for their continued support both physically and financially and trust that this support will continue on into 2012 especially as we anticipate the reopening of Pairc Colmcille.

To the players, young and old whose passion for the game and love of Carmen GFC is still evident at every level in our club, just to say thanks and the knowledge that we compete at the highest level with all our teams gives us all great satisfaction’.

The outgoing Chairman then paid tribute ‘to the committee members and officers of An Charraig Mhor GFC, who contribute their time and effort selflessly to assist with the running of our club. To various individuals and the committee as a whole, to say thanks for the time and effort that was afforded to our club for the year that was 2011. There is no need to mention names because people are proud to be involved and being a member of our club seams to be thanks enough. However it would be remiss of me not to mention Pat  Nugent and Paula Cuddy who have been guiding hands through some tough times and who work tirelessly and sometimes thanklessly for the good of our club.

Off the pitch a number of noteworthy events took place. The buzz that Activ8 created around our club will not be forgotten especially its ability to reach out to members of our community that otherwise would not have had an opportunity to experience and become part of the An Charraig Mhór footballing community.

Hopefully the success of this year will be built upon in 2012 and I believe that some members are already in training for next year! The highly emotive, timely and hugely successful 50 year celebration of the 61 championship winning team brought us back to the core values of our club. For all those who attended the event there will be cherished memories and the haunting sounds of Sean O’Riada will ring in our ears for many months to come.

The launch of our new and amazing web site which is creating quite a stir in the club with particular regards to the gallery and the information collated from the early years of our club.

To those who organized these events a massive thank you and we know that 2012 will provide even more highlights.

I would now like to say thank you once again to our Lady president for 2011, Anna McCaughey and on behalf of the committee to recommend a man who has made a massive contribution to our club over a number of decades, Packie Mc Philips, as our President for 2012.

Unfortunately as each year passes we see the loss of more and more members of our club and 2011 was no exception. I will now ask you to stand and say a prayer for the deceased members of our club".

In closing Dermot wished the club every success for 2012. He then declared all position open for the election of the officers and committee.
