Under 16 championship semi-final |
|
The under 16 girls defeated Errigal Ciaran in the semi-final of the championship on Sunday, by an impressive score line of 4-09 to 1-05. Errigal got the first score of the day with a point from Lucretia Quinn but Carmen responded with two points from play from Arlene Fox. Errigal looked dangerous around the Carmen goalmouth but through a good save from Emma Mullan and tenacious tackling from Ursula Magee Errigal were denied. At the other end Lisa McCrory spurned a good goal chance but redeemed herself when she hit the back of the net two minutes later. Lucretia Quinn kept Errigal in touch with four points but Carmen finished the half stronger with a goal from Arlene Fox and a point from Aoife McGuone. Half time score 2-03 to 0-05. The Carmen side got off to a good start in the second half through a goal and a point each from McCrory and McGuone. Errigal pulled back a gaol from Quinn that gave the defence and the keeper no chance. However that was to be Errigal’s last score as Meadhbha Kerr worked tirelessly from midfield to stop all Errigal attacks along with Shauneen McAleer and Alanah Treanor. Shauna Ward ran at the Errigal defence to set up attacks and Carmen finished the game with three points from the boot of Arlene Fox and one from substitute Marie McAleer with her first touch.
