The senior men had a disappointing run in the championship this year, getting knocked out in the preliminary round, by Clonoe. Carmen looked lively from the start with lots of possesion. However the Clonoe defence was hard to penetrate and this along with a stiff breeze meant Carmen didn`t score. Clonoe got the first score after 10 minutes when a freak incident saw Carmen score an own goal. Clonoe capitalised on this and scored a point and another goal but great defending from Kevin Gormley and Paul Daly ensured they didn`t score any more. Ronan McNally hit the target after a great run by Ciaran McAleer to get his team on the scoreboard, with his brother Kevin scoring a free shortly after to leave them 5 points behind.Just before the break Finbar Magill was introduced for Michael McCallan who was working hard out the field. Half time saw management make a few positional switches with James Nugent going to full forward, Colm McGurk moving to mid field,Roni Mac coming out to the half forward line and Benny Martin moving to the half back. On the restart, Carmen were on fire in all areas of the field and scored 6 points in succession from Conor McAleer, Michael Gallagher, Maco (2, 1 free), Paul Daly and Brendan Martin. Conor Gormley was dominating midfield and Colm McGurk was working tirelessly and it looked as if Carmen were not going to be stopped. Things took a turn for the worse when the referee sent Conor Gormley off for a second yellow. Barry Daly and Brendan McCartan made appearances and despite all Carmen’s hard work and determination, Clonoe managed to score a late point and goal to go 4 ahead and win the match.
