Under 14 league v Pomeroy
The under 14 boys had a great win over neighbours Pomeroy on Saturday, winning 3-07 to 2-07. This was atypically hard fought match with both sides playing good football. The home team went into a four point lead before Carrickmore opened their account with a well taken Johnny Munroe point. Carmen were then guilty of some wayward shooting and should have scored at least three goals before Cricko Moore hit the net after great work by Ruairi Donaghy and Decky Mullan. Both sides went in level at the break.
On the resumption, Carmen immediately stamped their authority on the game with a great move up the field, starting with Darragh Fox and ending in Cricko scoring his fifth goal in three matches. Paudie Conlon was in great form, breaking up countless attacks and when he sent his cousin Ruairi Donaghy in for another goal, things looked good for Carmen. Pomeroy had other ideas and it took a great James Ghent block on the line to stop Pomeroy scoring a major. Both sides exchanged points before a long ball in caught Conor McElhatton off guard and ended up in the back of the net. Pomeroy then added two more points to leave just the minimum between the teams. When Donaghy scored a point to leave two in it, Ryan Fox then played Eamonn Rafferty into space and he was fouled. Munroe kicked the resulting 35 meter free over the bar and it was a score worthy of winning any game. But the drama wasn’t over and Pomeroy went clear three minutes into injury time and shot for the top corner of the net only for McElhatton to stretch full length and stop the imminent goal. He cleared his line and this excellent play was greeted with the final whistle and another welcome two points for Carrickmore.
