Carmen came away with both points this evening in a derby game marred by the wet and slippery conditions. A long high ball by Michael Gallagher into the Kildress goalmouth was flicked to the net by Peter Loughran on the quarter hour and gave Carmen a cushion that never looked threatened. Kildress kept in touch by the accuracy of Des Treacy`s frees, with seven out of seven from dead ball situations.
Carmen`s first score came from a Kevin McNally free after three minutes and this was cancelled by the first of Treacy`s strikes two minutes later. Immediately after Carmen`s goal, Treacy struck again and added his third with five minutes left in the half. Barry Daly took an excellent point from distance with two minutes left and on the 30th minute Kevin McNally hit the second of his four pointed frees. In added time Treacy made the half time margin two points with his 4th free.
The second half started livlier, but we waited almost 15 minutes for a score; a Kevin McNally free. Michael Gallagher carved out a yard of space and fired over a couple of minutes later; but once again Des Treacy hauled his side back into contention with two frees. McNally replied with a free of his own in the 52nd minute, but almost immediately the home side came back with their only score from play - a Michael Treacy point from what seemed like an impossible angle.
As the gloom gathered, with three minutes to play, Peter loughran pointed a "45" - an excellent effort in the conditions. Treacy`s seventh conversion two minutes later concluded the scoring.
Both sides finished short handed with Finbar Magill seeing red midway through the first half; and Sean Treacy and Conor Gormley(two yellows)were lined in the last minute.
