Our
club is named after Carrickmore's patron saint,
St. Colmcille. The saint is said to have come
to the parish sometime in the 6th century and
he or one of his monks founded a monastery here.
Pilgrims
from all over Ireland and Europe came to An Tearman,
the spot on the rocks above Carrickmore town where
the monastery was built, to seek spiritual renewal.
Also nestled on "The Rocks" on Mullinalap are
his bed, chair and well, the latter of which has
been known to cure many an ailment!
The Primary School in Carrickmore and the chapel
are also named after St. Colmcille.
