The handball club was formed through the work of the Temonmaguirc Community Association. Handball has been going from strength to strength in Carrickmore since the alley was first opened on Saturday 6th May 1989.

The members have played with great pride and distinction in the intervening years. A number of players achieved their goals in becoming All-Ireland champions.

The first committee for the handball club in 1989 was as follows:
